Third time is a charm for Ash Delosa
ACCORDING to the adage “third time’s a charm” and that’s exactly what Ashleigh Delosa is hoping for this weekend.
Delosa is poised to represent New South Wales in the Australian Drivers’ Championship at Globe Derby tomorrow night in what is her third appearance in the series.
Delosa was runner-up in the 2024 edition at Globe Derby before finishing sixth in Hobart last year.
“Hopefully it will be a case of third time’s a charm,” Delosa said. “It’s been a huge honour to represent my state and it would be amazing to bring the title to New South Wales.”
Delosa is expected to make a slow start, however, with her first two drives among the outsiders at $51 and $34.
The situation should improve in the third when Delosa takes the reins behind in-form trotter Feel The Moment.
Boasting a pair of wins and two seconds from her last four starts, Feel The Moment is the $4 second favourite from the front line, with Lord Logan heading the markets at $2.50 from his 10-metre mark.
Lord Logan will be driven by Victorian star Mark Pitt.
Delosa will then partner the Samantha Hill-trained duo Resurrects and Delight Dream, which are well-placed in betting from barriers one and three.
“I drove a winner for Sam last time I was there, so hopefully I can have some success for her again,” Delosa said. “Sam’s stable is racing really well, so I’m fortunate to drive a couple of hers.
“I’m really looking forward to being in Adelaide as it is a wonderful series to be a part of.
“On the track it is super competitive, but off the track, we have a lot of fun.”
Delosa will be joined on ‘Team NSW’ by young gun Jett Turnbull, who is leading his home state’s premiership in just his third full season!
Turnbull has registered an incredible 191 wins this year, with his total sitting on 607 since breaking his maiden in mid 2023.
Like Delosa, Turnbull has a ‘mixed bag’, including $51 shots for his first two drives, before the 19-year-old combines with several runners at shorter odds.
Turnbull’s engagements include Reach The Peak ($5), The Vicars Girl ($6), Tuffasnails ($2.50) and Cee Cee Lou ($4), with the latter two the favourites.
