TEAM Tasmania – Jordan Chibnall and Dylan Ford – are hopeful of breaking their state’s hoodoo in the Australian Drivers’ Championship this weekend.
Set to contest the series at Globe Derby tomorrow night, the duo are aiming to bring the title to the Apple Isle for the first time since the Championship’s inception in 2014.
Despite hosting the event every second year, Tasmanis’s only podium finish was in 2019 when Mark Yole was runner-up behind Western Australian superstar Gary Hall junior.
For the record, Queensland has enjoyed the most success thanks to Peter McMullen in 2014, Grant Dixon the following year and Nathan Dawson in 2023.
Luckless while representing Tasmania during last season’s edition – finishing 10th – Ford has a solid opportunity to begin his quest in strong fashion this time around.
Ford will partner $6 chance Not Vicious from barrier 10 in the opening heat, while Chibnall has been paired with $26 outsider Weregoingtogetcha from gate four.
In what has the potential to be a big night for Ford, his final drive on the card is $1.80 favourite, Regal Attire.
“It’s always an honour to represent my state and I’ve been lucky to do it a few times,” Ford said. “I’ve never driven in Adelaide and am really looking forward to being there.
“I’ve had a look at my drives and have a few handy chances, so I’ll just be hoping for luck on the night.
“Ryan Hryhorec drove a winner for us in the series last year, so hopefully I can repay him with Regal Attire.”
Also poised to make her Adelaide debut, Chibnall’s best chance according to betting markets is $3 second elect Fe Fe On Fire in the ninth heat.
The bulk of Chibnall’s drives are in double figures.
“This will be my first time driving at Globe Derby, so I’m really looking forward to it,” Chibnall said. “I’ve got a few friends there and they’ve said it’s not a bad track to drive on.”
