Stewart stars headline Globe Derby card tonight

VICTORIAN horsewoman Emma Stewart is poised to continue her love affair with South Australia this weekend.

A frequent cross-border raider, Stewart’s strike rate in SA is phenomenal, such as 25 wins and four placings from 34 starts last season.

Just to highlight Stewart’s SA successes, since 2015 HRSA has conducted 42 races offering prizemoney of $50,000 or more, with Stewart and her partner, Clayton Tonkin, winning 18.

Of the 42, however, Tonkin and Stewart have only contested 21, giving them an astonishing strike rate of 85.7 per cent in SA’s richest races.

Stewart and Tonkin’s haul includes all three of The Allwood Finals in 2019, ’20 and ’21 – the only $100,000 events in the state since the 2018 SA Cup, which they also won with Shadow Sax!

The couple have also won the likes of SA’s Derby and Oaks and a host of Southern Cross Finals along with other supporting features.

“We always enjoy having a runner at Globe Derby,” Stewart said. “The racing is strong and there are often very suitable races for some of our horses.”

As for her pending assault, Stewart has a pair of runners engaged at Globe Derby tomorrow night, with both short-priced favourites.

Despite returning from a six-month spell, Letsstartinheaven is listed as a $1.02 hot shot from five in the third event.

Winner of his two starts before being sent for a break, Letsstartinheaven will be driven by local reinsman Wayne Hill.

The only other runner under double figures at $6, Deuce Coupe is considered the main danger from gate four.

“He has come up very nicely and we expect a big run from him,” Stewart said. “He’s primarily-owned in South Australia and this race shaped as a good starting point, so he’s heading to Adelaide.”

Also to be driven by Hill, Signature Look will represent Stewart in the final race on the card, with the son of Poster Boy a $1.02 favourite from gate five.

Signature Look had a ‘cameo campaign’ last January, winning his two starts before being given a freshen-up.

“He’s a pretty nice type, which has benefitted nicely from some time off,” Stewart said. “He pretty much has the same owners as Letsstartinheaven, so hopefully they’re in for a good night.”
