SA TROTS Wyndown Stud has the winning formula

Geoff Easom, the most successful breeder of standardbreds in South Australia for the last decade, has been a long-time supporter of the SA yearling sales.

The Wyndown Stud principal will be represented by three colts and two fillies at the Southern Stars SA Yearling Sale to be held at the Gawler Barossa Jockey Club Complex, Evanston on Sunday, March 26.

The pick of the Wyndown draft could be Lot 13, a brown colt by the proven sire A Rocknroll Dance out of the Art Major mare Damselfly, a half-sister to the Southern Cross winner Leftem For Dead and the SA BOTRA Pace winner Muchos Gratias.

“He really looks like a racehorse. I expect him to grow into a nice two-year-old. He’s from a family of young, going horses,” preparer Mandy Pascoe, of Ningana Park, said.

Wyndown’s other two colts belong to maternal families that have distinguished themselves for producing classic-winning youngsters.

Lot 7, a colt by first crop sire and world champion Lather Up (1:46) from Firepants (1:58.9), is a close relative of the outstanding WA juveniles Mazzini Magic and Lethal Lombo, while Lot 15, a very intelligent colt by the great Lennytheshark, is from a Rocknroll Hanover half-sister to four sub 2:00 performers.

The first of the two Wyndown fillies is Lot 4, a neat, compact filly by the deceased Rock N Roll World from an Art Major half-sister to the Southern Cross heat winner Hope Eternal, Shakas Prophecy (15 wins) and Loan Shark (13 wins).

Completing the lineup is Lot 22, a bay filly sired by the NZ 3YO and 4YO of the Year Ultimate Machete out of the Golden Nursery placegetter Nevada Roulette (1:57.8).

“She’s a big filly who is a quick learner,” Pascoe stated.

All yearlings offered through the sale are eligible for the $50,000 Southern Stars Yearling Sale Race to be conducted at Globe Derby Park no later than June 30, 2024.

A $20,000 bonus will be paid to the owner of the first filly past the post, a $2,000 bonus to the winning breeder and a $2,000 bonus to the breeder of the first filly past the post.
