SA TROTS Trotters Cup showed a bit of Millys Magic
CONSISTENCY was rewarded in Port Pirie last night.
Finishing among the placings in five of her nine starts this season, Millys Magic broke a drought from the winners’ circle by capturing the Trotters’ Cup.
The $20,000 feature doubled as the Final of South Australia’s revamped country cup circuit.
By securing the Cup the Claire Goble-trained mare registered her first success since scoring at Globe Derby last August.
“I’m just so thrilled with her,” Goble said. “She has put in some super runs, but just unable to get that win on the board.
“She’s run three seconds this time in for a combined beaten total of two-and-a-half metres!
“To get another win from her is fantastic and it also put her earnings over $100,000, which is not easy for a trotter to do in South Australia.”
With David Smith holding the reins, Millys Magic began well from her 10-metre handicap to be two-back along the pegs as Champagne Prince led from the pole.
Gaining a saloon passage along the inside in the home straight, the daughter of Majestic Son sprinted to a metre-and-a-half win from Lord Chancellor.
Im Hector, a stablemate of the winner, was a short half-head away third in 2:10.2 over 2530 metres.
“She went terrific…they both did!” Goble said. “To get a win and a third in the Cup is a great result.
“I will give Milly a week off now and then find another suitable race.”
