SA TROTS -Training double in Southern Cross Finals for former SA Trainer Geoff Webster

IT WAS a happy homecoming of sorts for Geoff Webster Friday night.

Although he remained at his Victorian base, Webster registered a training double at his former stomping ground – Globe Derby.

A multiple premiership and Group One winner at the circuit, Webster was triumphant in a pair of Southern Cross Finals.

Also successful in their heats, Cobber and Elegant completed a clean sweep of the futurity.

“It was the perfect result,” Webster said. “You can’t ask for more than to win the heats and then the Finals.

“I was pretty confident with both as I felt they had the edge over the others which is how it panned out.”

Driven by Dani Hill, Elegant opened Webster’s account by going one better than last season’s edition when runner-up behind Encipher.

Taken three-wide to find the lead during the middle stages, the daughter of Somebeachsomewhere cruised to a soft 14-metre win from Honeybun.

Lou Lou Quick was 14 metres away third in 1:57.7 over 2230 metres.

“She has proven herself to be a pre4tty handy filly all along and deserved to pick up a feature win,” Webster said.

“She’ll come home now and I’ll freshen her up before the Vicbred heats in a couple of weeks.”

Also Vicbred bound, Cobber completed the double when he accounted for Jawsoflincoln and Art Jester in a slick 1:55.4 with Hill in the cart.

“He’d been racing metro class back home and I did consider this is a drop in class for him,” Webster said. “He still had to get out and get the job done, which he did nicely.”
