SA TROTS Tiana McMahon hits purple patch during Team Teal campaign

A LEAN patch during the past week hasn’t prevented Tiana McMahon from making an impact on the winners’ circle.
McMahon only had two drives at Globe Derby during the weekend and three at the same venue yesterday, but managed a pair of victories.
Outstaying his rivals over 1800 metres, Grinforawin scored in 2:00.3 as Final Round and Ima Workingclassman filled the placings yesterday.
Two nights earlier McMahon piloted Sir Lucas to an upset win in the Italian Cup, with the son of Cullens Legacy paying $26 on the Tote.
Trained by Clinton Fuller, Sir Lucas provided McMahon with her biggest success.
“He went so well,” McMahon said. “It was terrific, or should I say ‘molto bene’ to win a race like that with him.
“The draw played a big role as he was able to get a bellissimo run and make the most of it.”
Beginning quickly to lead from barrier two, Sir Lucas was eased to take a trail behind the hot favourite, Jawsoflincoln.
Finishing strongly along the passing lane, Sir Lucas sprinted to a two-metre win from the front runner.
Culture King was two-and-a-half metres away third in 1:57.3 over 2230 metres.
“He was travelling nicely down the back and I pulled the plugs in anticipation of Jawsoflincoln taking off around the bend,” McMahon said.
“When Jawsoflincoln didn’t put any ground on us I was pretty confident I had him covered.”
