SA TROTS - Aratusa Lass maintains perfect record
BROODMARE gem Aratusa Lass maintained her perfect matron record thanks to Eve Crocker’s triumph in Penrith last night.
A handy pacer which registered 18 wins and 18 placings across three states, the South Australian-based Aratusa Lass has eclipsed her racing feats in the breeding barn.
Owned by prominent SA industry figure Gary Crocker, Aratusa Lass boasts eight winners from eight starters.
Aratusa Lass’ stock includes Group One winner Major Crocker, which has won numerous races in America in recent years to take his earnings past $1million.
With three of her stock scoring last season, Aratusa Lass was a surprise oversight as SA’s Broodmare of the Year announced last week.
As for the mare’s latest success story, Eve Crocker outclassed older rivals by leading throughout from barrier two.
Breaking her maiden at her fourth start – having been runner-up in her three previous outings – Eve Crocker rated 1:59.4 over 1720 metres as Aphrodite and She Maybe Bettor filled the placings.
“She’s a very nice filly,” Crocker said. “At her third start she was a huge thing beaten in the Group One Gold Tiara and has now come back well from a short break.
“Michael (Doltoff, trainer) is pretty happy with her and expects her to get better as the season goes along.”
Another of Aratusa Lass’ offspring – Adam Crocker – will be searching for his fourth consecutive victory at Albion Park tomorrow night.
A Group Two winner last season, Adam Crocker faces a tough task from an awkward draw for trainer Chantal Turpin.
Adam and Eve are by Somebeachsomewhere.
“He’s drawn five which will make it difficult on him,” Crocker said. “He’s in terrific form, but it’s hard to be confident in him from there.”
