SA TROTS Star youngster provides filip for Southern Stars SA Yearling Sale

The convincing win of Star Man in the opening heat of the Kindergarten Series has given the

Southern Stars SA Yearling Sale, to be held at the Gawler Barossa Jockey Club Complex on Sunday, March 26, a timely and significant boost.

A full sister to Star Man, the nominal favourite for the Kindergarten Final on March 25, will go under the hammer as Lot 8 at the sale.

She is one of the six-strong consignment from South Australia’s leading standardbred nursery, Allenby Lodge Stud.

“She’s in the same mould as Star Man,” Allenby Lodge studmaster Steve Norman said.

The filly is by the NSW Derby winner and Vicbred champion Major Secret out of the four-time Albion Park winner Kash NZ (1:55.8).

The Allenby Lodge draft are all sired by resident stallion Major Secret, one of the best-bred, best-performed sons of the great Art Major.

Norman believes the Class of 2023 is “one of our best drafts for many years.”

Lot 16, a bay colt from the former smart racemare Closure, is perhaps the pick of the Allenby Lodge offering.

“He’s a ripping colt. I really love this colt,” Steve said.

Lot 20, a powerfully built filly from the Well Said mare Stateswoman, should also attract plenty of attention. She’s a close relative to the dual Vicbred finalist and Group winner and placegetter Brutally Handsome (by Art Major), the winner of $119,805.

The first of the Allenby Lodge draft to go through the ring will be a big, rangy colt out of the Christian Cullen mare Watch Me Glitter, a daughter of the WA Oaks winner Showtime Franco. He is Lot 1.

Allenby Lodge is also offering a filly from the Presidential Ball mare Jilliby Mia (Lot 23), whose first three foals are winners, and a colt from the Southern Cross heat winner Jimbaran Bay (Lot 12), whose two-year-old brother is showing a good deal of promise with Globe Derby Park conditioner Les Harding.

All yearlings offered through the sale are eligible for the $50,000 Southern Stars Yearling Sale Race to be conducted at Globe Derby Park no later than June 30, 2024.

A $20,000 bonus will be paid to the owner of the first filly past the post, a $2,000 bonus to the winning breeder and a $2,000 bonus to the breeder of the first filly past the post.

The catalogue is now available online at sabotra.org.au
