SA TROTS - Star Man is in a star studded race

HE’S won two of the state’s features and is in prime condition ahead of the heats for a third main event, but Star Man could struggle!

That’s the bewildering assessment from his trainer John Conry, especially considering Star Man boasts an impressive record of four wins and three placings from seven starts.

Nonetheless, Conry made the statement after perusing the field .

“There are only six runners in it, so it’s short on numbers, but certainly strong on quality,” Conry said. “It’s a very good field and I reckon it’s a fair call to say it’s the strongest field he has faced.

“He’s certainly going to have to produce something special to win the heat, let alone the Final.”

To be driven by David Smith, the son of local stallion Major Secret has drawn barrier four, with his main danger, Alive And Free, to come from gate three.

Making a successful debut in Shepparton on September 12, Alive And Free has since been transferred to the Samantha Pascoe stable.

“Everything is good with him, no worries about that,” Conry said. “I just would’ve liked to have drawn closer to the pegs, but wouldn’t we all!

“Alive And Free appears like the one to beat, but Tilly Jayne from the pole shouldn’t be taken lightly.

“I’d say whichever one gets to the lead will be close to impossible to run down.”
