SA Trots - Saturday 21st August 2021 wrap up

The TAB Venue Mode Pace, the first race on the program saw favourite Crookwell Jake lead from the wide barrier, but throughout the race gave driver Dani Hill a difficult time by pulling hard.  Meanwhile, the eventual race winner Brantley sat in the one out one back position, where Wayne Hill drove patiently waiting for daylight to appear. After running wide on the home turn he ran down Lochinvar Hugo by 2 ½ metres racking up his 9th win for trainer Aaron Bain.

Dennis did it again in race 2, the TAB Long May We Play Pace.  Favourite Jakes Sportwriter overraced after finding the lead, making himself vulnerable to a late challenge. Sam Pascoe pulled Dennis out three wide at the 500 metre mark and the 7yo gelding ran down Jakes Sportwriter in the home straight, sprinting to an easy second victory in a row for trainer Tayla Warren.

Paige One scored at long odds in the 4yo Mares Allwood Sale Series Final for trainer Stephen A’Court.  Showing good gate speed and holding the lead Darren Billinger dictated the race on his terms with the daughter of Sunshine Beach.  Favourite The Queen Of Heart made a move with a lap to go and put in a strong performance to finish second, with her stablemate Justabitofheaven finishing third.  The lightly raced mare owned by Belinda A’Court, Robert A’Court and Sean Baker bought up her third win from only 14 starts.

Not a night for favourite punters, the fourth race on the program The Globe Bistro, Bar & Gaming Pace saw David Smith lead all the way on Overpowering from gate 1.  Trained by Kaela Hryhorec the 6yo is racing in great form bringing up his second win at the track this month.

Race 5 – the Hygain Release Trotters Discretionary saw Frank Pullicino with half of the runners, including two of the front markers and the three backmarkers.  Its Elvis, the most favoured of his five, stepped cleanly from the standing start and Gaita Pullicino raced the gelding confidently out in front. Not challenged until late in the race by Armchair Drive and Gatesys Alley on the outside with Millys Magic looming in the sprint lane, Its Elvis fended off rivals and held on in a relatively tight finish.

Ammicchi showed good gate speed to lead in the SA Botra 100 Year Celebration January 2022 Pace. After finding their positions in the field Lets Get Shorty sat parked in the breeze, with rank outsider This Is Bill on his back.  Ryan Hryhorec drove a patient race on the black stallion before stoking him up the home straight and running home strongly to get up at good odds in his first start from a spell.

The final event on the program the Des Stanbury Pace saw a three way go into the first turn with Power Pass holding off the challengers for the lead. After the field settled Dean Girardi, not happy with the pace took Sutter Man forward and headed to the breeze. It was a close go at the finish, with Nikks Pick utilising the sprint lane and Sutter Man lunging on the line to defeat favourite Power Pass.  The 10yo trained by Mark Russo brought up his third win this season.
