SA TROTS- Regal Attire set for Trotters Cup Sunday

SUNDAY’S Trotters’ Cup is shaping to be a case of deja vu all over again

Originally scheduled to be conducted at Kapunda, the program was transferred to Globe Derby due to extreme heat, with the Bureau of Meteorology predicting the mercury to hit 40 degrees.
With 37 degrees expected tomorrow and 39 either side of the meeting, the decision was made to switch venues.
Given the club wants to host its main events at home, however, the Kapunda Pacers’ and Trotters’ Cups will be run later in the season, with this weekend’s Ladbrokes-sponsored Cups filling the gap.
Regardless of the venue, one aspect appears to remain certain – Ryan Hryhorec is poised to win the Trotters’ Cup!
Hryhorec has dominated the provincial features like no other in recent years, including becoming the first trainer in the nation to complete a clean sweep of a state’s provincial squaregaiting Cups in 2022.
A regular on the dais in 2023, Hryhorec kick-started this season’s circuit by winning last weekend’s Strathalbyn Trotters’ Cup, which was also run at Globe Derby!
Overcoming a 30-metre backmark, Regal Attire scored by two-and-a-half metres from My Used To Be, with Cyclone S Adams two-and-a-half metres away third in 2:01.1 over 2230 metres.
Returning this weekend, Regal Attire is the one to beat despite being moved back to 40 metres against five rivals.
Hryhorec will also be represented by talented, but wayward, gelding Aldebaran Dexta, which is the only other handicapped runner on 20 metres.
“Regal Attire is a very nice trotter as he keeps proving,” Hryhorec said. “He’s gone back another 10 metres, but against a small field over 2645 metres, he has plenty of time to make up the ground.
“Dexta has been a pain in his last couple of starts, but the ability is there ,and on his best behaviour, he’ll take a lot of beating.”
