IN-FORM pacer Per Ardua Ad Astra will have to live up to his name this weekend

Latin for ‘through adversity to the stars’, Per Ardua Ad Astra is engaged in Sunday’s Gawler meeting where he has drawn poorly for trainer Shane Loone.

Not only is Per Ardua Ad Astra facing adversity via an inside of the second row draw, the race is over a mile, giving the gelding little time to overcome the early obstacle.

“It’s not ideal for him in any way,” Loone said. “The biggest concern is getting caught in traffic over the short trip.

“If he gets the opening he needs though, he is going to take a lot of beating.

“He couldn’t be better going into the race, now it’s a matter of how it all unfolds on the day.”

Despite boasting five wins from his last six starts, Per Ardua Ad Astra is rated a $4.40 chance, with Im Themightylucy a $3 favourite.

Like Per Ardua Ad Astra, Im Themightylucy found her way to South Australia via Western Australia and is unbeaten from three starts for local trainer Aaron Bain.

To be driven by Samantha Pascoe, the daughter of Sweet Lou is first-up since scoring in Launceston on May 31.

“Im Themightylucy had good form before going for a break, but being first-up and drawing the outside of the back row will make it hard on her,” Loone said.

“There are a few on the front line, such as Kahina, which are also in good form, so it will be an interesting race.”
