SA TROTS - New lease on life for Luv Me Or Hate Me

A CHANGE of scenery has given ‘greybeard’ pacer, Luv Me Or Hate Me, a new lease on life.

Racing in moderate fashion around the Sunraysia district, Luv Me Or Hate Me was gifted to veteran trainer Keith Routley last December.

The 12-year-old has had eight starts under Routley’s care for a pair of wins and three placings, with his latest triumph coming at Globe Derby Tuesday night.

Thrilled with the outcome, Routley was quick to thank former owner, Andrew Clarke, for his generosity.

“I had him given to me by Andrew and it was a terrific thing for him to do,” Routley said. “I didn’t know his age when I got him, but he’s been a good horse to me.

“Andrew also sent me one to train for him and he won last week.

“I hadn’t trained a winner in a couple of years before Luv Me Or Hate Me won for me last month and now I’ve had three in a few weeks.”

Routley experienced a 33-month drought from the winners’ circle before Luv Me Or Hate Me’s success last month.

Routley’s win before the dry patch came via Farasthe Eyecansee at Globe Derby on April 19, 2021.

As for Routley’s latest moment in the spotlight, Luv Me Or Hate Me scored by a head from Trouble Looming, with Giant Jackson three metres away third.

Driven by Lisa Ryan, the son of Life Sign rated 1:58.7 over 1800 metres.

“The good thing is he doesn’t know how old he is and is racing like a horse half his age,” Routley said. “He always tries and never gives in.

“I’ll nominate again for Monday…he probably won’t draw well, but it is what it is and he’ll go alright.”
