SA TROTS - Mount Gambier announce Mini Premiership Series

‘THE MOUNT’ ANNOUNCES MINI PREMIERSHIP SERIES
Mount Gambier Harness Racing Club (MGHRC) and Harness Racing South Australia (HRSA) are excited to announce
an enticing Mini Premiership for its next five race meetings over a 10-week period.
Trainers and drivers will have the opportunity to share in $11,000 worth of bonuses for meetings conducted on
February 21, March 4 (Cup night), March 24, April 11, and April 28.
These premierships will be determined on a points system earned at each race start and accumulated across the five
meetings, in turn rewarding both participation and success. Please see below for further outline:

Leading Driver Award: February – April

MGHRC President Simon Phillips looks forward to promoting this next period of racing at Mount Gambier, which
includes their Cup meeting on March 4 “This is a great initiative alongside HRSA and one that will reward participants
in our region in addition to enticing some further Victorian participation, in which The Mount relies on to maximise
our race numbers and field sizes. Our committee and volunteer groups are looking forward once again to our
standalone Cup meeting on Saturday March 4, and to have innovations such as this mini premiership should only
bolster this next period ahead for the club.”
HRSA CEO Dean Elliott shares a similar line of thought with Mr Phillips “The south-east region has a passionate and
talented group of horse people, with a record that consistently demonstrates to bat above its average. The current
reality is that approximately half of a meeting’s runners need to be made up by cross-border participation to have
sustainable racing at Mount Gambier. Initiatives such as $3,000 rating exempt races, an increase in $4,500 races, and
now a mini premiership that will take them through to the winter break, are incentives for shrewd participants to
look closely at ways to increase their earning capacity without spiking as much in the ratings, whether it’s with young
progressive horses, or established runners looking for winnable pathways.”
In addition to the Mount Gambier SA Country Pacing Cup heat, and SA Country Trotting Cup heat on Saturday March
4, the club will also be conducting its popular Mount Gambier Gold Cup for Pacers, now worth $12,000. This is an
event for 52-64 rated horses 4 year-old and upwards. Heats will be conducted on February 21.
