SA TROTS Hoping for perfect ending to debut season
YOUNG horsewoman Samantha Pascoe is hoping for the perfect end to her debut season.
South Australia’s reigning concession drivers’ champion – having been runner-up during the three previous years – Pascoe expanded her industry involvement by obtaining her trainer’s licence this season.
With her team contesting 46 races, Pascoe has notched nine wins and 16 placings.
Set to return to Globe Derby on Saturday night, Pascoe is in a solid position to register a double.
To achieve the feat Pascoe will have to bookend the meeting.
“Both of my runners are in good shape and should go well again,” Pascoe said. “Not only would a double on Christmas Eve be a nice present, it would be a perfect way to end my first season as a trainer.”
Boasting three wins and a second from his last five starts, Joonior Brown is among the favourites despite his inside of the back row draw.
“He has been terrific all season and I can’t see any reason for that to change on the weekend,” Pascoe said.
Successful at his last two outings, Animal will then be on the attack for a hat-trick from barrier five.
“I’ve only had him for three starts and he has done very well,” Pascoe said. “The draw could be a bit tricky, but he’ll be in the finish.”
