SA TROTS - Magic Owens lines up in the 2022 Commercial Hotel Strathalbyn Trotters Cup

AWARE he has a formidable battle ahead Mario Borg hasn’t let the magnitude of the task prevent him from dreaming about hometown glory.

A prominent industry figure, particularly in the Strathalbyn region, Borg is poised to contest the club’s Trotters’ Cup with Magic Owens.

“As much as I would like to win it, I’m just pleased to have a runner in the Cup,” Borg said. “I also nominated Gone And Forgotten for the Pacing Cup, but unfortunately she was made the emergency,

“It’s a shame she didn’t get a start as her track work has been terrific, but with a lot of luck Magic Owens might get the job done.”

First-up since December 20, Magic Owens is the rank outsider in the provincial feature.

Along with a strong assembly of opponents, the daughter of Great Success is faced with an outside of the front row draw due to her ODM status.

“She has come up nicely, but this is no easy task by any stretch of the imagination,” Borg said.

“She’s first-up and drawn the car park so we’ll be relying on a lot of luck.”

Citing Aldebaran Alissa as the one to beat, Borg stated he “wouldn’t be surprised” if the mare and her Ryan Hryhorec-trained stablemates complete the trifecta.

“Aldebaran Alissa shapes as the one to beat from barrier two,” Borg said. “Mass Destruction won well last week and C K Spur is unbeaten from his three South Australian runs for Ryan.

“They are the top three picks and I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re the first three across the finish for Ryan.”
