SA TROTS -Jawsoflincoln ready to fire in Sothern Cross Final
LEAVING connections confused after last year’s edition, Jawsoflincoln is “more than ready’ to correct the anomaly this time around.
After registering three wins and a second from of his first four starts for astute trainer Greg Scholefield, Jawsoflincoln was expected to play a major role in the Southern Cross Final, but failed to produce his best and finished towards the tail of the field.
A subsequent vet’s examination revealed no abnormalities, with Scholefield still scratching his head about the performance.
“He just wasn’t right that night for whatever reason,” Scholefield said. “He was fine before it, but something was off in the Final.
“I gave him a few weeks off just in case after it and he was back to his best, winning six of his next seven starts.
“It just has to be put done to ‘one of the things’ in the end.”
Void of luck during a recent New South Wales campaign, Jawsoflincoln has been phenomenal during his two starts back in his home state.
In fact, the son of Art Major has won both outings by an average of 40 metres, including a Southern Cross heat last weekend.
Thrilled with the three-year-old’s form, Scholefield is positive Jawsoflincoln can continue his streak despite drawing wide in barrier six at Globe Derby tomorrow night.
“I couldn’t be happier with him at the moment,” Scholefield said. “Last week Gaita (Pullicino, driver) got out of the cart after his race and said it is the best he has ever felt.
“The draw isn’t ideal, but he has brilliant speed and we’ll be going forward from there.”
