SA TROTS Paulis Pride a chance tonight at Globe Derby

ACCORDING to punters Paulis Pride has close to no chance tonight despite being a last start winner.

Among the favourites in Port Pirie a week ago, Paulis Pride outstayed his rivals by racing in the ‘death seat’ to break his maiden at his fifth start.

Despite the impressive performance, the Ben Loades-trained gelding is listed at $51 ahead of this evening’s Globe Derby program

Aware “there are some better horses in the race”, Loades is far from convinced Paulis Pride has such a poor grip on another victory.

“He has trained on well since Port Pirie…I’m pretty happy with his work,” Loades said. “I’m happy with his attitude, he’s doing everything right and goes into tonight full of confidence.

“He’s no superstar, but is going ok and only needs to show a little more to be right in it.”

To be driven by Tiana McMahon, the three-year-old has drawn to settle forward from barrier two.

Making a successful Australian debut last Tuesday, Maluka Miss is the $1.20 favourite from gate three.

“Maluka Miss went very well last week and is clearly the one to beat,” Loades said. “We’ve drawn to be up in it and I expect a good run from him.

“As a two-year-old I thought would go on a little better, but he is slowly getting there and only needs to show a little more improvement to continue to be a competitive horse.”
