SA Trots - Industry Focus Groups

Harness Racing SA is pleased to announce the reinstatement of two major industry bodies – the Industry Advisory Committee and the Integrity and Welfare Committee. These committees have been reinstated at the behest of the new Board and Chair, as a renewed commitment to ensuring ongoing collaboration between the South Australian Harness Racing community and the business operations executives for the betterment of the industry. Meetings have commenced for both committees with initiatives based on improving communication, welfare, racing, and operations already in motion.

The Industry Advisory Committee (IAC) is chaired by HRSA Business Director, Mr Scott Barclay, who this morning lauded the efforts of all involved, Mr Barclay stating “We successfully held our first meeting last week with representatives from SAHRC, Country Clubs & SA BOTRA. We all agreed the importance of the committee and being the voice of the industry. This will act as a critical industry platform to channel ideas and feedback on relevant topics of the day to the HRSA board which will help to shape the future of the industry”.

The other members of the IAC are Anne Mowday, Darren Billinger and Richard Miller representing SAHRC, Mario Borg, Toby Ryan & Tyson Linke, representing the Country Clubs and Aaron Bain representing SA BOTRA.

Industry members are encouraged to utilise their industry representatives through the IAC for any industry related matters. Shortly we will make available a feedback / ideas form on the HRSA website and through the clubs, whereby contributions and suggestions can be made, with these forwarded on to the IAC for consideration.

Integrity and Welfare Committee elected Chair; Mr Mario Borg stated, “welfare and integrity are crucial components of our business, and as such we will be working closely with all clubs and organisations to ensure that practices in SA represent best possible standards”. Mr Borg added “that with the effects of COVID 19 still reverberating around the industry and community, we need to ensure that we emerge from its perils a much stronger and better equipped industry”.

The committee intends to push for higher integrity standards and has already begun research and collaboration with leading sports integrity researchers in Canberra.
