Hayoak continues the familys winning ways
Talented mare Hayoak is ready to uphold her family’s winning ways.
Trained at Angle Vale by Dean Girardi, Hayoak showed her quality leading throughout in the Cardigan Boko Swe @ Bellmoure Park Stud Trotters Mobile (2230m) at Globe Derby Park.
It was her sixth win, but breeder-owner Peter Cluse believes the five-year-old mare is capable of emulating her “uncle” Siegfried which won 22 races during a good career.
“Hayoak’s dam, No Renege was a smart mare that won 10 races with 20 placings but had her career cut short by injury,” Cluse said.
“Her half-brother Siegfried was a great horse for us winning 22 races and being placed 26 times from 124 starts.
“I believe Hayoak is really starting to mature and can keep up her winning ways.”
Trainer Dean Girardi, who drove the mare on Saturday, agrees that Hayoak is improving.
“As a young horse I felt she was going to be a really nice filly, but for no reason, she just seemed to level off,” Girardi said.
“I have been tinkering with her training, and early in the month, I noticed an improvement, and she seems to be back on track.”
Hayoak returned to winning form at Globe Derby Park on August 11 sprinting strongly up the sprint lane to win.
On Saturday, Girardi made full use of barrier one on Hayoak ($6) and rated her perfectly for a good 3-1/2 metre win from Sammy Barbaro ($51 into $31) with Bishop George ($2.50 fav), a similar margin away third.
The mare rated a very respectable 2:02.9 on a cold, winter’s night.
South Australia’s current best pacer Bellezza Nera continued his winning ways in the Ladbrokes SRM In Multis Pace (1800m).
Despite drifting from $2 to $3, Bellezza Nera went forward to sit parked before driver Danielle Hill asked him to sprint up over the final 400 metres and he drew clear to win by two metres from the fast-finishing Told You Twice ($12) with Artillery ($9.50) a short half head away third.’
Purchased from Western Australia by trainer David Harding for new owner Lachie Cormack, the seven-year-old has won his past four starts and six of his last seven.
The reason for the betting drift was the unlimited support for Last Tango In Heaven which firmed from $2.20 into $1.80 favourite.
Having his first start for trainer-driver Ryan Hryhorec, Last Tango in Heaven found the front from gate two and recorded a very comfortable 63 second first half of the last 1600 metres but faded to fifth in the run home when the pressure went on with a 56.5 second last 800 metres.
Mallala trainer Frank Pullicino made a winning return when True Blue Rose scored a strong win in the Bianco Reinforcing Pace (2230m).
Well driven by Tony Pullicino, the trainer’s son, True Blue Rose ($2.90 fav) race away to win by 6-1/2 metres from Butter Cup ($5.50) with Alimonie ($13) a long neck away third.
The seven-year-old mare had run good seconds at her previous two runs and deserved the victory.
Concession driver Jason ‘Chicken’ Kittel landed Resurrects a brilliant winner of the Ladbrokes Blackbook Pace (1800m).
Trained by Lance Holberton, Resurrects ($21) came with a flashing run in the home straight to score a neck win from Harro Hill ($7) with Reach The Peak ($4.40) a metre away third.
Settling towards the back of the field, Kittel brought the four-year-old out wide past Norman’s Gate, and the gelding let down powerfully to grab the win.
Resurrects was bred and is owned by Judy and Paul Nobes who are ardent supporters of harness racing.
