Handy draw for Partyatthebeach
A HANDY draw has Partyatthebeach in a strong position to break his recent bridesmaid status.
The Robert Caruso-trained gelding has had three starts this season, finishing second on each occasion!
Engaged in the opening event at Globe Derby tomorrow night, Partyatthebeach has the opportunity to lead throughout from barrier two.
“He had a long break as he did a tendon during the Southern Cross last year,” Caruso said. “I brought him in a couple of times and tipped him out again, so I have been taking it easy with him.
“He’s had three runs back, but I didn’t trial him, just let him race his way to fitness.
“He should be somewhere back to his best by now and hopefully this week can go one better.”
Should Partyatthebeach progress as hoped, Caruso will primed the son of Sunshine Beach for another tilt at the Southern Cross.
Heats of the futurity are scheduled to be run on November 26.
“I’m working towards the Southern Cross again,” Caruso said. “The plan is to take it slowly with him up until then.
“Once he gets out to 2230 metres, such as the heats, that’s when he will really start to show how good he is as he can lack little speed over 1800 metres, but will run out a very strong 2230.”
