Globe Derby is one place Places You Dont does
Trainer Toby Ryan admitted winning the opening two races at Globe Derby Park on Saturday was a nice reward for what had been a testing week.
Places You Don’t, driven by Ryan Hryhorec, won the $14,000 Kevin & Kay Seymour Final (1800m) then Ubetonred led throughout in the Ladbrokes Same Race Multi Pace (1800m) driven by Ryan’s wife Lisa.
“The weather this week has made it tough,” Ryan said.
“Walking around the paddocks after the rain was tough going, then the rain bomb hit on Friday which made it impossible to work horses.
“So, any win is a bonus.”
Places You Don’t, backed from $3.50 into $2.30 favourite came from gate 10 and Hryhorec was happy to settle well back in the running line before coming forward from the 600-metre mark.
South-East pacer Dallas Dale ($2.50) went around to sit parked early then went to the front 400 metres out, but Places You Don’t was coming quickly.
Hryhorec gave his mare a short break before straightening then asked her to sprint.
Places You Don’t accelerated and drew clear to win by three metres from Dallas Dale with Antiguas Be Be ($51), seven metres away third.
A five-year-old mare, bred and owned by Ryan, the winner has been lightly raced with seven wins and 15 placings from just 32 starts.
“She has had leg issues for much of her life,” Ryan said.
“She didn’t have her first start until she was four and we have to be careful with her.”
Hryhorec said Places You Don’t had showed excellent acceleration over the final 600 metres.
“With my own big team and Lisa (Ryan) to drive their team, it is rare to have a drive for Toby these days,” Hryhorec said.
“Actually Toby gave me my first drive at the old Moonee Valley track back in 2003 on Hugo Jack which finished fourth.”
Ubetonred ($2.30 into $1.90 fav) sped away from gate one and was never really challenged in his victory.
The four-year-old scored by 10 metres from Vatican Green ($15) with Feisty Jane ($5) a neck away third.
As a trainer, Hryhorec added a victory with the speedy Tweedledee in the Cardigan Boko SWE @ Bellmoure Park Trotters Mobile (2230m).
The nine-year-old was resuming from a spell but showed his customary speed to find the lead before taking a trail, then using the sprint lane to grab victory.
Tweedledee ($2.20 fav) scored by 1-1/2 metres from All The Trix ($3.80) with Almighty Fear ($3.80), a stablemate of the winner, a similar margin away third.
A mixed night for trainer-driver Samantha Hill with two all-the-way wins with My Ultimate Flynn in the K&S Electrical Pace (1800m) and Alive And Free in the Paceway Restaurant Dining On Race Nights Pace (2230m).
Both pacers led throughout from gate one to win their respective races.
My Ultimate Flynn ($2.80 fav) scored by a metre from Euro Beat ($41) with Coco Mia ($5), 2-1/2 metres away third.
Alive And Free ($2.20 fav) held on by three metres to beat the heavily backed The Crimson Prince ($19 into $8.50) with My Ultimate Harry ($6.50), five metres away third.
Despite the wins, it was a sad ride home for Hill who lost her talented trotter Saint Sebastian to injury.
The ultra-consistent mare Magic Storm turned in a tough performance to win the Ladbrokes Odds Surge Fillies & Mares Pace (1800m).
Trained in Kadina by Tyson Linke, Magic Storm ($2.40 fav) had to sit parked outside the leader before drawing clear to win by five metres from the leader Kittycat Cutie ($4.40) with Harro Hill ($2.90), three metres away third.
Owned by a large number of workers in the Copper Coast Council, the seven-year-old mare has won her past two starts and has three wins and three seconds from her past six starts.
Magic Storm was confidently driven by Danielle Hill who brought up a double with victory on Tweedledee in the final event.
