Delightfull Tammy set for this weeks Final
The highlight of this Saturday’s Globe Derby Park meeting will be the $25,000 4YO & 5YO Classic Final (2230m) following two exciting heats.
Class mare Delightfull Tammy, trained by Toby Ryan at Roseworthy, and driven by his wife Lisa, scored a powerful win in the first heat while Hezrockinroyalty, driven by Michael Smith for Murray Bridge trainer Alan Cronin, came with a powerful run to take out the other heat.
Delightfull Tammy ($2.80 fav) refused to give up and lunged late to grab a head win in heat one of the Ladbrokes 4YO & 5YO Classic (2230m) from Clarenden Tribute ($5) with John Vincent ($3.90), four metres away third.
The quality of the winner came through in her victory sitting outside the leader and still proving too good.
Concession reinsman Jason Kittel drove a brilliant race on Clarenden Tribute and rated him perfectly.
Knowing Delightfull Tammy was a tough stayer he made the race into a sprint home.
He seemingly had claimed a win taking a good break turning for home but the class and will-to-win of the five-year-old mare, came through as she lifted to grab a victory.
“She never gives up,” said driver Lisa Ryan.
“Off the back I thought we were going to have to settle for second, but it was as if she saw the winning post and wanted the win.”
Trainer Toby Ryan said it was a privilege to train Delightfull Tammy.
“I can’t imagine I will ever get the opportunity to train a horse as good as her,” Ryan said.
“I thank the Cormack family for sending her across from champion trainer Peter Manning.
“I gave her a break from early May and had not intended to bring her back just yet but saw this $25,000 race in the calendar and thought it was too good to pass up.
“It was a typical tough run tonight and I know she will be even fitter next week.”
Delightfull Tammy rated 1:58.6 in her victory while Hezrockinroyalty recorded 1:58.4 in his heat.
Hezrockinroyalty ($3.10) came from near last to score a 1-1/2 metre win from Hasty Bid ($1.75 fav) with Rocknroll Spirit ($8), 9-1/2 metres away third in heat two of the Ladbrokes 4YO & 5YO Classic (2230m).
Hasty Bid, recently purchased by Lachie Cormack who is having a fabulous run with Bellezza Nera, and trained by David Harding, was an odds-on favourite at his first SA run.
Driver Danielle Hill allowed him to hold the inside and lead from gate one, recording good quarters of 30.5, 29.5, 28.9 and 28.9 again to make it tough for his rivals.
Michael Smith, on Hezrockinroyalty, settled at the tail of the field in the running line from his gate six draw.
He managed to secure a good lead into the race from the 600-metre mark and sprinted powerfully over the final 300 metres to win comfortably.
Trainer Alan Cronin said the winner could be “hard work.”
“On Monday, he was very full of himself and hard to handle,” Cronin said.
“Mark (Norman) had his hands full with the horse wanting to do what he wanted, and he eventually finished fifth behind Bellezza Nera.
“Tonight, he was a lot more chilled and raced much better.”
While Kittel drove brilliantly on Clarenden Tribute and had to settle for second, he was able to go one better on Meet Me At The Beach in the Kevin & Kay Seymour Pace (1800m).
Meet Me At The Beach ($3.80) led but had True Blue Rose ($2.70 fav) go a half-length clear at the 400-metre mark but responded and drew away to win by a neck.
Third-placed Trigger ($13) was two metres away.
Trained by Symon Kittel, the five-year-old mare was purchased online by the trainer and his best mate Mark Cappelluti for $6000 and she has already more than paid for herself.
Winning driver Jason Kittel said he was not too concerned when the favourite took an advantage.
“She has that bit of a flat spot, but I knew she would lift,” Kittel said.
“True Blue Rose got a metre or so in front, but my mare responded and won well.”
A deserved winner on Saturday was Euro Beat in the SA Cups Night October 25 Pace (2230m).
Trained and driven by Dean Girardi, Euro Beat had been gallant seconds at his previous two runs.’
On Saturday, Girardi took Euro Beat ($1.25 fav) to the front and was never challenged in an eight-metre win from Wattosblazeofglory ($9.50) with R Eleven Art ($6), 3-1/2 metres away third.
Favourite punters got the night off to a good start with Big Black Betty’s win in the Bianco Reinforcing Pace (1800m).
Driven by Wayne Hill for trainers Jill Neilson and Katie Wilson, Big Black Betty ($4 into $2.20 fav) lasted by a head to beat Bettor Be Lively ($23) with Boulder City ($41), a metre away third.
