SA Bred horse wins at Yonkers USA
SOUTH Australian-bred gelding Major Crocker has become Australia’s latest millionaire.
Bred by SA businessman Gary Crocker, Major Crocker passed the magical milestone with his victory in Yonkers during the weekend.
Driven by Baxter Boyd, Major Crocker covered the mile in 1:55.2 as Sports Bettor and Jojo’s Place filled the placings.
Major Crocker’s new status places in him astute company as one of four Aussie-bred sons of Art Major to earn more than $1million, joining the likes of For A Reason, Sushi Sushi and Lettucerockthem.
All Group One winners, the quartet are also Australian Pacing Gold eligible!
During his Australian career, Major Crocker captured the Australasian Breeders’ Crown, Inter Dominion Consolation, Southern Cross Final and posted a fastest time of 1:50.2.
Major Crocker lowered his mark to 1:49.4 in the northern hemisphere.
“When I think back to buying his dam, Aratusa Lass, for $2500 and the way she has gone on as a broodmare it just goes to show fairy tales can happen,” Crocker said.
“She’s got a perfect record from eight starts, with another of her sons, Adam Crocker, also ready to start racing in America as well.
“I’ve got a sister to Major which will be two in the New Year and the mare is in foal to Art Major at the moment.
“Major has done a top job from the moment he set foot on the racetrack, and as the weekend showed, he’s still giving his all.”
