SA TROTS -Busy night ahead for the Webster team

IN WHAT has the potential to be a highly-successful weekend, top horseman Geoff Webster is in for a busy 48 hours.

Though based in Victoria, Webster has runners engaged in New South Wales and his home state, South Australia!

Runner-up in last week’s NSW Oaks, Mega Spur is set to contest tomorrow night’s Derby at Club Menangle, with Luke McCarthy to partner the daughter of Pegasus Spur.

Mega Spur has drawn barrier six, but slots into five with the removal of the emergency.

Hoping for a happy homecoming, Webster will make the trip to South Australia to tackle the BOTRA Southern Star Series with Catherine and Fantasea.

“Jerry Glavas (part-owner) went to Sydney with Mega Spur for the Oaks and has stayed up there for the week,” Webster said. “I’ll be heading back home to the old stomping ground with the other two.

“Time-wise it won’t be much of a home trip as I’ll get there on Saturday arvo and head home the next morning,” Webster said. “But with a bit of luck we can get some good results.

“Then I will be back there again next week for the Final which they can hopefully draw well in.”

To be driven by Webster, Catherine is the widest of five runners in the opening heat, with Fantasea to come from four in the second qualifier.

The pair have been kept safe in the betting with Catherine listed at $5 and Fantasea at $7.

Fellow Victorians Let Her Rock and Splash Of Paynt head the markets at $1.10 and $2.20.

“They are only small fields, but there are a couple of nice ones in them,” Webster said. “My fillies are pretty green, but go well enough.

“They’re going to need some luck, but they will be better for the experience, and as I said, hopefully they can draw well in the Final and surprise a few on the night.”
