SA TROTS Bourke backs Aussie sires at SA Yearling Sale

Portland (Vic.) horseman Heath Bourke has pinned his faith on colonial bred stallions at the Southern Stars SA Yearling Sale to be held at the Gawler Barossa Jockey Club Complex, Evanston on Sunday, March 26.

Bourke, the breeder of recent Victoria Premiere Stakes winner Remi Lou, has two entries in the sale, one a colt by the Australian 3YO Colt of the Year and Auckland Cup hero Vincent and the other a filly by the Victorian ‘Cups King’ Yankee Rockstar, now siring winners in Victoria.

The brown colt, listed as Lot 3, ranks as a half-brother to the handy sort The Dux, being out of the Melton winner Takeiteasyonme NZ, who is a half-sister to the Perth winner Rivers Of Babylon and from the family of the NZ Derby winner Mighty Me.

“He’s a well put together, very handsome colt. He has a long stride at the walk with a wide chest,” Heath said.

Lot 18, the brown Yankee Rockstar filly is the first produce of the Melton winner Audaz Bonita, an Armbro Operative half-sister to last season’s Victorian juvenile winner Jeremy Lou and from the immediate family of Bathurst Gold Chalice winner Northern Frontier and Melton winner Truth And Courage.

“She’s a strongly built filly with a lovely temperament. She’s a bold mover with a great work ethic,” Heath stated.

Both youngsters are nominated for Vicbred, while the filly is also Breeders Crown eligible.

All yearlings offered through the sale are eligible for the $50,000 Southern Stars Yearling Sale Race to be conducted at Globe Derby Park no later than June 30, 2024.

A $20,000 bonus will be paid to the owner of the first filly past the post, a $2,000 bonus to the winning breeder and a $2,000 bonus to the breeder of the first filly past the post.
