Kim Evans happy with React To Beauty
WE’VE all heard the term ‘one trick pony’, but few know of a ‘one pony person’.
Yet, if ever someone was to fit into the latter category, it has to be Kim Evans.
Although she has had widespread success in other equine areas, when it comes to harness racing, Evans is all about React To Beauty.
Obtaining her trainer’s licence during the 2018/19 season, Evans has registered 14 wins – all with React To Beauty – including Globe Derby Monday.
React To Beauty joined Evans’ stable in March 2019, with each of his victories notched in the South Australian horsewoman’s care.
“My uncle Jack Carr owned him in Melbourne, and when he passed away, I took over React To Beauty and a few others,” Evans explained. “We get along a lot better now, but when he first got here, not so much.
“I called him the Devil Child because the healthier I got him, the more he tried to kill me.
“Even now, it can still take half an hour to catch him on race day!
“At least when he gets to the races he knows it’s time for business…people laugh at me at the track when I tell them his name because he just stands there all quiet and sedate.”
With Tiana McMahon in the cart, React To Beauty scored by a short half-head from Linxx, with Mischievous Maggie a head away third.
In a true ‘blanket’ finish, Emrites was a neck away fourth, with a neck to Rolling Remona fifth.
“It was close at the end, but he got there,” Evans said. “That’s it for him on Mondays now as he’s had a couple of wins, so I will look for a suitable Saturday night race.”
Working a team of three, Evans is hopeful of making her way to the winners’ circle with the trio.
“The Kew Legend did his best yesterday and I’d really like to see him win,” Evans said.”I bought a little one from Victoria, he is spelling at the moment, but hopefully I can get him back and winning.”
