Industry Announcement - Fuel Rebate

FUEL REBATE

Harness Racing South Australia has introduced a fuel rebate to offset the increased travel costs participants are currently facing.
With effect from 1 April, Harness Racing SA will implement the following temporary measures to assist with travel and to relieve owners of additional resulting costs. Payments based on round-trip travel distance:

• Up to 50km: $10 per trainer
• 51km to 150km: $30 per trainer
• 151km or greater: $60 per trainer

Trainers with 5 or more starters at an individual race meeting will be eligible for double the payment listed above.

The rebate is for all race meetings in South Australia and is in addition to the current unplaced regional rebate of $50 per runner for Port Pirie and Mount Gambier race meetings. No application is required; the rebate will be paid as part of the usual prizemoney cycle.

HSA CEO Heath Pocock said the rebate was recognition of the additional costs that participants faced.

“The surge in petrol and diesel prices has imposed a substantial financial strain on participants, and these measures will help offset costs for our trainers” Pocock said.

“Together with the Federal Government’s recent fuel excise reduction, this announcement delivers much-needed support to participants during this period of price volatility.”

The temporary Fuel Relief rebate will remain in place throughout April and be reviewed on 30 April 2026, with Harness Racing SA continuing to monitor conditions and consult with stakeholders.
