Golden Jaylet proving age is no barrier

AGE is proving no obstacle for Golden Jaylet.

Despite reaching ‘greybeard’ status, Golden Jaylet is racing in arguably career-best form, with three wins from his last four starts.

Naturally thrilled with the 13-year-old, trainer Kathryn Pickering stated Golden Jaylet’s form is just a case of the gelding being “in a zone”.

“I’m not doing anything different with him than I’ve always done,” Pickering said. “But he’s just feeling good within himself and it’s showing on the track.

“For some reason he is in a zone and it’s carrying on to the track.

“He just loves racing, which he didn’t start until he was five, so racing wise, he has only had eight seasons.”

With Dani Hill in the cart, Golden Jaylet was sent forward from barrier five to test the leader, Lochinvar Ruler, from the ‘death seat’.

Bullocking his way to the front in the shadows of the post, the son of Allamerican Ingot scored by a head from the pacemaker.

Well Well was four-and-a-half metres away third as the winner rated 1:58.8 over 1800 metres.

“He went super,” Pickering said. “I’m very impressed with him.

“He is wonderful to work, the safest horse I have ever trained, so I love working him and racing him is a bonus.”
