Draw against Star Man today

ALTHOUGH he hasn’t conceded defeat, trainer John Conry admits another bad draw has diminished his confidence ahead of today’s Globe Derby meeting.

Conry will head to South Australia’s premier track with talented pacer Star Man, which faces a difficult task from barrier seven – the outside of the front row.

Star Man was an eye-catching third at the same venue on June 27 after beginning from the outside of the second row.

The son of Major Secret scored from the pole during his previous outing.

“He’s copped a bad draw, which seems to be becoming a habit,” Conry said. “In his last four starts he’s had seven twice and 10, with a decent draw in between and he was able to win.

“He’s in the right form, and off a better draw I would almost declare him, but from there he’s got to have a lot of luck.

“We’ll know after the first 100 metres if he still has a chance, but all we can do is hope for the best.”

Citing Amys Baby Angel as the one to beat from gate four, Conry considers the 1800-metre contest “a pretty even field”.

“Amys is the one to beat as she’s also hit a bit of form,” Conry said. “Overall it’s a pretty even field with several solid chances.”
